Roaring reunion
Our first Alumni reunion and what a success.
Over 30 Alumni members and the current out-going GSE team turned up to celebrate, reiminisce and reconnect with fellow Rotary Alumni.
It was wonderful to meet and chat with past Alumni members who we have lost contact with.
Peter surprised Mike Bailey with a very special membership award, the first of its kind. This is in recognition of the help, support and involvment that the Alumni Association of District 1210 has had from Mike. It was a pleasure to present Mike with Honorary Membership to the Alumni Association.
Many many thanks to all those that were able to attend the event and without your involvement it would not have been as successful as it was.
We so happy as a group to reconnect and were absolutley delighted to have a few new members as a result of the day.
If this event was anything to go by, we can't wait for the next one.

International links at Oktoberfest in Munich
By Delia Yapp, October 2009
Beware of invitations offered to you by men in Lederhosen!!
I’m sure is what my Mother would have said, if she had not met the delightful German Alumni that had ventured to the International Convention in Birmingham in June. Their aim was to invite and attract Rotary Alumni to attend Oktoberfest, an infamous festival in Munich, to encourage greater understanding and international fellowship.
The alumni organisation in Germany last year celebrated its tenth anniversary, so our own District alumni had much to learn from our new friends.
As District Alumni Chair, I agreed to attend the event and was hosted by German Alumni over what was a jam packed weekend.
Alumni from Canada, America, Argentina, Japan and Germany all congregated for the event, the first of its kind in Germany and spent their time, discussing Rotary, travelling experiences and hopes and plans for the future. The culmination of the weekend was being part of the traditional Oktoberfest Beer Festival- complete with ‘Oompah Oompah’ band, steins of German beer, and plenty of Wurst and Sauerkraut for all!
The kindness and shared values you expect when you travel with Rotary were more than evident, and it is hoped the event will become an annual event for International Rotary Alumni to meet, share and exchange details. As the only British representative, I was delighted to be part of this international experience, and hope to meet with some of my new found friends at next years International Conference in Montreal and perhaps even to return to Oktoberfest 2010 to practise my new singing repertoire!!
